The flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, PhD, has felicitated with Nigerians and Bayelsans on the 66th Independence anniversary of Nigeria and 30th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State.

Obuebite, in a statement issued in Yenagoa, said the double celebration is worthy of celebration in view of the resilience, peace and cohesion demonstrated by the people despite challenges.

He described October 1 as a remarkable and divinely significant day, being a day the nation celebrates freedom and a day Bayelsans thank God for the creation of their only homeland.

According to him, Bayelsa, carved out of Rivers State on October 1, 1996 by the late General Sani Abacha, remains the glory of all lands and a symbol of equity and development for the Ijaw people.

Obuebite said: “30 years ago, our long-standing dream of a distinct identity, equity, and development became a reality. From humble beginnings, God has kept us as a people and as a State. Though we still have challenges, we have every reason to thank God for how far He has brought us.”

He expressed appreciation to founding fathers and past leaders of the state, including Navy Capt. Phillip Ayeni, CP Habu Daura, Capt. Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade, Col. Paul Edor Obi, late Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Timipre Sylva and Senator Seriake Dickson, for their sacrifices and vision.

He also lauded Governor Douye Diri, describing him as God-sent and an apostle of peace, whose people-oriented leadership and infrastructural revolution have made Bayelsa a haven of peace and unity.

“To my resilient and beloved people of Brass and Nembe, you have remained peaceful, steadfast and committed to the progress of Bayelsa and Nigeria despite all odds. I am very proud of you,” he said.

Obuebite prayed for healing, unity and greater development for the Nembe/Brass constituency, Bayelsa State and the nation in the next 30 years.
