Dr. Michael Bless Olomu has defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Olomu, who is eyeing the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, is expected to contest for the PDP ticket.
His defection comes months after he lost the APC primary for the constituency to Hon. Bernard Kenebai, who clinched the party’s ticket.
Sources close to the politician said Olomu has commenced consultations with PDP leaders, stakeholders and supporters across Sagbama and Ekeremor Local Government Areas in a bid to position himself for the contest.
The move is expected to alter political permutations in the federal constituency as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 polls.
Meanwhile, Olomu’s defection is generating fresh political discourse in Sagbama Local Government Area.
Both Olomu and the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe, hail from Ebedebiri community in Sagbama LGA.
Akpe was appointed deputy governor following the death of his predecessor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Political observers note that Olomu’s decision to pursue his ambition on the PDP platform will put the political influence of both Ebedebiri-born politicians to test, and may reshape existing alignments within the LGA.
It remains to be seen how the development will impact the balance of power between the APC and PDP in Sagbama/Ekeremor, as more aspirants declare interest ahead of the party primaries.
