The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Peter Akpe, has condoled with the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Chief Timothy Itiedu, over the demise of his father, Chief Alfred Itiedu.
Dr. Akpe conveyed the condolence message on behalf of the state government during a visit to the Itiedu family in Azikoro, Yenagoa, at the weekend.
He described the passing of the late patriarch as painful and a huge loss not only to the family but to the entire Azikoro community.
The deputy governor urged the bereaved family to be consoled by the worthy legacies left behind by the deceased, adding that the large number of sympathisers who had continued to throng their residence was a testament to the impactful life he lived.
According to him, death remains an inevitable end for all mortals, stressing that what matters most is the legacy one bequeaths after death.
“Death is an expected end. One day everybody will die. But when you die, what will people say about you? That is the important question we must not forget.
“All of you who have come from Epie, Atissa, Yenagoa and other places to console the children are testimonies of the good life our father lived. The Bible says, by their fruits, you shall know them.
“The children he left behind should keep the flag of Pa Alfred Itiedu flying. He was amiable and contributed his quota to the development of his community and the state. Let us take solace in his good legacies,” the deputy governor said.
Dr. Akpe assured the family that the state government shares in their grief and would participate fully in the funeral activities to honour the departed elder statesman.
In his response on behalf of the family, Chief Timothy Itiedu expressed gratitude to the deputy governor for visiting the family barely 24 hours after their father’s death.
He disclosed that the family would announce a date for the final burial after the initial mourning rites and would formally communicate same to the state government.
The deputy governor was accompanied on the visit by the Acting Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo; former Commissioner for Environment, Chief Iselema Gbaranbiri; APC House of Assembly candidate for Sagbama Constituency 1, Hon. Lucky Agbalaje; APC Chairman for Sagbama Local Government Area, Mr. Arioke Ohwona, among other dignitaries.
