The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, has presented cheques totalling N2,483,354.01 to families of deceased and injured police officers in the state.
The presentation, which was done on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was held on Tuesday at the command headquarters in Yenagoa.
The beneficiaries include next-of-kin of officers who died in the line of duty and personnel who sustained injuries while discharging their duties. The cheques were paid under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.
The command said the disbursement also includes outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies after initial partial settlements.
Speaking at the event, CP Adewale said the exercise was more than financial payment, but a demonstration of the IGP’s commitment to the welfare of personnel and families of officers who paid the supreme price.
He said, “An injury to one is an injury to all,” and assured the families that the Nigeria Police Force will not abandon them.
The CP noted that while no amount can replace a lost life or erase the pain of injury, the payment will provide practical support and show that their sacrifices are recognised.
He urged officers and men of the command to remain dedicated to their constitutional duties, adding that such welfare packages are meant to boost morale.
The command reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its personnel and families affected by the hazards of police service.
