A graduate of the Lagos State University is battling for his life after he was hit by a stray bullet during a failed robbery attack on a Point of Sale operator in Igando, Lagos State.
NAIJA News Spank gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday on Kayode Onafuye Street in the Alhaji Ede area of the community.
It was learnt that the four-man gang, who operated on two motorcycles, had trailed the operator from her shop to her residence.
An eyewitness said the suspects first stormed the operator’s shop and, on discovering that she was not around, proceeded to her bungalow.
The occupants were said to have locked the entrance door, preventing the robbers from gaining access.
A resident, who identified himself simply as Bode, said, “The robbers came on two motorcycles and were about four in number. They traced the PoS operator to her house. When they couldn’t gain access after the occupants shut the entrance door, they started firing.”
Another resident said the LASU graduate was walking through the area when the gunmen started shooting indiscriminately and was hit by a stray bullet.
“He unknowingly walked into the scene before realising what was happening. He was hit by a bullet as the robbers opened fire after failing to find their target,” he said.
It was gathered that many neighbours only became aware of the attack when gunshots rang out. The injured graduate, who recently completed his studies at LASU and was preparing for the National Youth Service Corps, was rushed to a nearby general hospital.
A police source said operatives were deployed in the scene after a distress call was received, adding that detectives recovered expended cartridges and had commenced investigation.
