The Delta State Police Command has arrested a member of a three-man robbery syndicate and recovered firearms and other exhibits in the state.
The command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Wednesday in Warri.
Edafe said operatives of the Ebrumede Police Division in Uvwie Local Government Area apprehended the suspect on Tuesday while conducting a stop-and-search operation on Garki-Uti Road, Effurun.
He said the team intercepted three suspected armed robbers. Two of them fled on a motorcycle during interrogation, prompting a coordinated manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
A search of the suspects’ bag yielded two locally made double-barrel guns, 11 live cartridges, one expended cartridge, an axe, two Android phones, two power banks, two wristwatches, a lighter and a camouflage military polo.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were transporting the items to their hideout on Sapele Road.
Edafe said the arrested suspect is in police custody while efforts continue to apprehend the other members of the gang.
