The Delta State Government has suspended the Commissioner for Works, Highways and Urban Roads, Mr Reuben Izeze, over alleged assault on an aide to the governor, Mr Simon Mudi.

Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, announced the suspension in a statement on Monday.

The decision followed a viral video of a fracas at the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, after a Delta Central Stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Although the incident did not occur inside the meeting hall, the governor’s aide was allegedly assaulted on the premises after the gathering.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had ordered an investigation into the matter.

Emu said the suspension was necessary to enable security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation without interference.

He said the suspension remains indefinite pending the outcome of the investigation.

The SSG added that the Oborevwori administration remains committed to maintaining public safety, law and order and protecting the sanctity of human life, even when state institutions are involved.
