Athletes of Yenagoa-based Samkay Athletics Club excelled at the one-day Dynamic Athletics Meet held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, Yaba, Lagos, at the weekend.
Odi-born emerging talent, Samson Teibowei, won the U-18 men’s 800m event with a time of 1:56.27secs, just about two seconds off his Personal Best.
Teibowei also made a bold statement in the 400m, improving his previous time of 50.44secs to a new Personal Best of 50.22secs.
His compatriot, Mekioniso Messiah, won the U-18 men’s Long Jump event with a leap of 6.94m, just 0.01m short of his Personal Best of 6.95m.
Messiah also recorded a new Personal Best of 49.72secs in the 400m event.
In the same vein, Godgift Bariweni ran a new Personal Best of 11.41secs in the men’s 100m.
Chairman and founder of Samkay Athletics Club, Dr. Kola Oredipe, lauded the athletes for their impressive performances, describing the feat as a worthy reward for three years of investment by the club.
Oredipe urged the athletes to see the achievement as a springboard to building an excellent career in athletics.
