President Bola Tinubu has described the death of veteran journalist and Publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, as a major loss to the nation’s media industry.
Oladipo, a former Political Editor of The Punch Newspapers, died at the age of 56.
In a condolence message on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said Oladipo devoted his life to journalism and the development of democracy.
He noted that the late publisher’s career underscored the critical role of the media in strengthening democracy through public enlightenment, accountability and robust public discourse.
Tinubu recalled Oladipo’s transition from print to digital journalism, having founded The Eagle Online after years of meritorious service at The Punch.
“Dotun Oladipo’s death at the age of 56 is a painful loss to the Nigerian media community and to our nation. He was a committed journalist who devoted significant years of his life to informing the public and contributing to the development of our democracy,” the President said.
He added that Oladipo’s contributions to political reporting and digital publishing would remain an enduring part of his professional legacy.
The President prayed for the repose of his soul and for strength for his family to bear the loss.
“I pray that Almighty God will grant him eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
