Bayelsa United Football Club says the delay in payment of salaries owed some backroom staff is due to ongoing restructuring by the new management board.
Chairman, Management Board of the club, Dr Peter Singabele, gave the clarification on Thursday in reaction to a social media post alleging that some staff were owed three months’ salaries.
Singabele said though the post was misleading, the board decided to respond in the interest of transparency.
He explained that the new board inherited limited resources on inauguration and had to prioritise players with valid contracts to guarantee stability ahead of the new Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
He said the board also initiated a comprehensive restructuring of the backroom staff to align with the objective of returning to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“That process affected the immediate payment timeline.”
The chairman assured the affected staff that the outstanding payments would be made as soon as the accounts department concludes reconciliation.
“We urge everyone involved to remain calm. In no distant time, the matter will be fully resolved and payments discharged,” he said.
He stressed that the board’s major focus remains securing promotion to the NPFL and would not be distracted.
