The Chairman, Technical Committee of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, NWF, Akuh Purity, has lauded the President of the Federation, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for approving closed-door camping for Nigerian wrestlers ahead of the World Wrestling Championships.
The championship is scheduled for Astana, Kazakhstan from October 24 to November 1, 2026.
Purity, who also serves as the head coach of the Nigerian women’s wrestling team, said the decision to commence intensive camping demonstrates the commitment of the NWF leadership to providing athletes with adequate preparation.
He said the camping programme, which will be held at two designated venues in Bayelsa and Ondo States, will enable the wrestlers to intensify their training and sharpen their technical and tactical preparations.
According to him, the closed-door arrangement will allow the athletes and their coaches to maintain maximum concentration as they work towards peak performance.
He commended Adeniyi for his keen interest in the development of wrestling and for prioritising the welfare and preparation of Team Nigeria athletes ahead of major international competitions.
Purity noted that adequate preparation remains critical to athletes’ performance at the highest level, stressing that the camping exercise would further strengthen the wrestlers physically, technically and mentally.
He also acknowledged the support extended to foreign-based Nigerian wrestlers, who have already benefited from pre-tournament camping and other preparatory arrangements.
He said: “Such initiatives demonstrate Adeniyi’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerian wrestlers, both home-based and foreign-based, receive the necessary support to compete on the international stage.”
The 2026 World Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan will bring together the world’s leading wrestlers, with Team Nigeria expected to compete across different weight categories.
