The Bayelsa State Government has unveiled its programme for the 30th anniversary of the creation of the state.

The Deputy Governor, Pastor Peter Akpe, unveiled the programme on Thursday during the weekly Prosperity Walk in Yenagoa.

He said the activities will hold from September 28 to October 1 and that the celebration is comprehensive and people-centred.

Akpe said the programme was put together by Governor Douye Diri and designed to celebrate all Bayelsans as the state clocks 30 on October 1.

He said the celebration will kick off on Sunday, September 28, with an Ijaw language awareness programme at 10 a.m. at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa.

He said sporting events will hold at 4 p.m. the same day at the Samson Siasia Stadium, featuring football matches, wrestling and other sports with performances by state legends.

According to him, there will be a cultural float on Monday, September 29, from Igbogene through Hospital Road to Oxbow Lake, Yenagoa.

He said all eight local government areas are expected to showcase their cultural heritage, adding that a prize should be instituted for the best performing local government.

He said the float would culminate in a boat regatta at Oxbow Lake involving all the local government areas.

He said the day would climax with the Bayelsa Musical Concert at the Oxbow Lake Pavilion, featuring notable musicians from and based in Bayelsa.

He said an anniversary lecture will hold at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, at the Banquet Hall.

Akpe said a Bayelsa Mega Praise Night will hold at 3 p.m. the same day at the Samson Siasia Stadium, warning that latecomers may not secure space.

He disclosed that Governor Diri will deliver the anniversary broadcast, to be followed by a media chat on October 1.

Other activities lined up for the same day include a children’s party and an exhibition of 30,000 cakes at the Peace Park, opposite Government House.

He said the cake exhibition is being positioned as a potential Guinness World Records attempt.

He added that the anniversary dinner and award night will also hold at the Banquet Hall.

Akpe said an independent committee has been set up to nominate eminent Bayelsans deserving of recognition.

He urged participants at the Prosperity Walk to spread information about the celebration.
