Bayelsa agog as Gov Diri gives out daughter in marriage

Sampou community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was agog on Saturday as Governor Douye Diri gave out his first daughter, Dr. Stephanie Ebidenere, in traditional marriage to Ballad Tamaradoubra Agbeyei.

The ceremony, attracted a host of dignitaries, including former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who chaired the occasion, and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his wife, Tobore, and wife of the Kwara governor, Prof. Olufunke AbdulRazaq, were among guests at the event.

Also present were first ladies of Jigawa, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi and Taraba states. The first ladies of Edo and Benue states were represented.

Diri, who attended the event with his wife, Dr. Gloria Diri, prayed for a blessed union for the couple.

He said: “It is marvelous in our eyes. May your union be blessed. There is no perfect marriage. So strive to love each other and commit your marriage to God at all times.”

AbdulRazaq, in his remarks, congratulated the couple and urged them to make God the cornerstone of their marriage.

Other dignitaries at the event were the Angolan Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Jose Bamoquina Zau; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Heineken Lokpobiri; former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia; former Bayelsa deputy governors Peremobowei Ebebi and Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah (rtd); and wife of the first civilian governor of Bayelsa, Mrs. Margaret Alamieyeseigha.[Oil]

Also in attendance were Senators Benson Agadaga and Konbowei Benson; House of Representatives members Fred Agbedi, Oforji Oboku, Rodney Ambaiowei and Marie Ebikake; Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere; and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Matilda Ayemieye.

Others were Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku; Managing Director, Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, Ebitimi Amgbare; former Managing Director, NDDC, Ndutimi Alaibe; former Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta, Kingsley Kuku; former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus; and Head of Service of the Federation, Dame Didi Walson-Jack.
