Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has charged 1,760 corps members deployed to the state to uphold discipline, unity and tolerance in the course of their service year.
Diri gave the charge on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two orientation course at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
The governor, who was represented by his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Mr Wisdom Poyeri, urged the corps members to shun all forms of indiscipline and conduct themselves with dignity and respect.
He described the orientation exercise as vital to national service and assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and safety.
Diri also enjoined them to make positive contributions to their host communities during their primary assignments.
The oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Matilda Ayimieye, who was represented by Justice Inikade Eradiri.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Samuel Pepple, said 1,760 corps members were duly registered for the three-week orientation exercise and had acclimatised to camp activities.
Pepple urged them to be of good behaviour and contribute meaningfully to national development, while commending Governor Diri for his sustained support to the scheme.
