Succour came the way of 30 widows in Sagbama Federated Community, Bayelsa State, at the weekend, as an illustrious son of the community, Engr. Boloebi Belgium Ederekumor, provided financial support to boost their petty trading businesses.

The beneficiaries were drawn from the six quarters that make up the federated community, with five widows selected from each quarter.

The intervention, according to Ederekumor, was aimed at strengthening the small-scale businesses of the widows, improving their livelihoods and easing the economic challenges confronting them.

Ederekumor, who spoke during the presentation, said the gesture underscored the need to support vulnerable women, particularly widows who strive to provide for their families and contribute to the economic growth of the community.

The beneficiaries, who could not hide their joy, described the support as timely and impactful. They offered prayers for God’s blessings, good health and protection for Ederekumor and his family.

The gesture has been widely commended as a demonstration of community-driven compassion and responsive leadership focused on improving the lives of the less privileged.
