..Ex-Bayelsa governor faults party leadership, says government has disappointed Nigerians
Former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The resignation was contained in a letter dated August 31, 2026, which was released on Facebook by his Media Assistant, Julius Bokoru, via his Facebook page.
The letter, addressed to the Ward 4 Chairman of the APC in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, stated that Sylva was quitting the party with immediate effect.
Sylva said the decision was taken after consultations with his family, associates, colleagues and sympathisers.
A founding member of the APC, he said it was saddening that the ideals upon which the party was built have been thwarted. He stated that he could no longer belong to a party whose leaders believe that all is fair in politics.
He argued that the present government, formed under the APC, has disappointed the vast majority of Nigerians and shows no credible attempt at reform.
“I am therefore left with no other choice than to jettison a floundering ship whose fate appears to have been sealed by its irredeemable load of iniquities,” he said.
In a postscript to the letter shared by Bokoru, Sylva said he was copying the EFCC because the agency has recently acted more as an organ of the APC than as an institution of the state, adding that he was ready to face any witch-hunt that may follow his decision
