Nigeria’s Super Falcons powered into the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a dominant 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C match on Wednesday, NAIJA News Spank Sports Extra reports.
Needing all three points to keep their title defence alive, the nine-time African champions produced their best performance of the tournament so far.
Captain Asisat Oshoala broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, calmly converting from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed a handball inside the Egyptian box.
The Falcons maintained the pressure and added more goals to put the contest beyond the North Africans, who had already been eliminated before kick-off.
Egypt pulled two back — one in the 45th minute and a late penalty — but Nigeria responded each time. Rasheedat Ajibade and Joy Omewa were also on the scoresheet as the Super Falcons sealed the emphatic win.
Speaking after the match, Oshoala praised the team’s resilience.
“We knew what was at stake. We stayed together, fought for each other and got the result we needed,” the captain said.
“The players showed great determination. We knew we had to win and they delivered under pressure.”
The result completed a strong recovery for Nigeria after a shock opening defeat to Malawi. The Super Falcons bounced back with wins over Zambia and Egypt to finish strongly in Group C and advance to the knockout stage as they chase another continental crown.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio also congratulated the team, describing their WAFCON campaign so far as “another Damman miracle.”
