The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Samuel Akoade, for allegedly killing his 60-year-old mother, Mrs. Olufunke Amoo, in Ore.
The incident occurred on Sunday at the deceased’s residence in the Powerline area, along Ore-Okitipupa Road, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Mrs. Amoo was found lying in a pool of blood with deep machete wounds. She was said to have died before the arrival of the police.
Operatives of the Ore Divisional Police Headquarters, following a report on the incident, mobilised to the residence, secured the scene and commenced preliminary investigations.
A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered, while photographs and other evidence at the scene were documented.
The suspect, who reportedly fled after the incident, was later tracked and arrested by the police.
Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said Akoade is being held in connection with the death of Mrs. Amoo.
Jimoh disclosed that the deceased’s remains have been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed the SCID to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.
